Blog Your Blessing : Blessing of the Animals

The Blessing of the Animals is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi and his love for all creatures. In many towns, there are processions of animals, from dogs and cats to hamsters and horses. The animals are led to churches for a special ceremony, complete with prayer.

Blessing of the Animals

Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures.
You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land.
You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless this pet.

By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan.
May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures!
Amen.

Dedicated to my sister Flo, who lost her baby dog last week.

I am going through your blog reading all the animal related posts first. I just love them!

I have 2 pet rats, a cat and a dog and they are all rescues. It is so sad to lose a beloved pet, but this is a lovely blessing and one I will bookmark for future reference.
