Google spends $$$ to bid/buy new top level domains, like .LOL, .Google and .Docs.
On May 31, 2012, Google disclosed some of the specific top-level domains for which it is applying--at $185,000 per application. The domains are ".google," ".docs,." ".youtube," and ".lol". Each application, some saying more than 50 top-level domains in total, carries an $185,000 application fee. That would be $9,250,000 and some change.
