I want to share the story that made my heart smile for awhile. May it bring you or someone you know peace when faced with the loss of a beloved four-footed companion.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

I am sorry about your loss. Losing a beloved pup is very painful.
Thanks for sharing that story. It reminds me a bit of Cynthia Rylant's wonderful book, "Dog Heaven." What greater joy than to run with the hounds of heaven?
Your story brought a smile to my cynical face. In fact, your post serves as inspiration for a BYBS of my own... Thanks for posting!
So sorry about the loss of your beloved dog. I know how much it hurts.
I've seen that Rainbow Bridge piece before -- it's beautiful. Have you seen a children's book called Dog Heaven? It's along the same lines. I got it for my kids when our first dog passed away but I cried so hard I could hardly read it to them.
I am sorry for your loss but happy for you that so many internet friends helped to get over that loss. What a blessing! The Rainbow Bridge I have read before and is comforting indeed.
I NEVER READ THAT BEFORE IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND VERY TOUCHING I HAD A DOG WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND I SAW HIM GET RUN OVER BY A CAR,THAT WAS BAD NEVER CARED MUCH FOR DOGS SINCE HE WILL BE THERE I KNOW, NOW I HAVE MY BABY WHO I SPOIL ROTTEN
Wonderful post... I love my boys and hate to acknowledge that I will most likely survive them... and I already have my sad share (two other pups) waiting for me over there... but hopefully, we will be reunited in a big group!
I still get choked up when I think about my childhood dog and her final days. I can only hope she's in such a place. Our dog is still young-only 6 1/2 but the day will come when our family will say goodbye to her. I just can't imagine life without a dog in the house.
@sandy-I never read that book. I will look for it at the library.
@whatever-I am honored that I not only made you smile, but also inspired you.
@feefifoto-I cried as I typed out Rainbow Bridge.
@paulie-You are comforting, paulie.
@lucky lady-OMG, that happened to me more times than I could count. I gave up dogs until I moved away from home.
@matthew-Thank you for stopping by the travel blog and leaving your best wishes. That meant a lot.
Its bad to hear about your beloved dog... :( but it is really nice to read that people love this much pets or animals. They really have such a wonderful feelings for the pets. Thanks a lot for sharing this touching story.
