Blog Your Blessing : Bells

two horses in a fieldListen for my Bell

Just up the road from my home is a field in which two horses live. One is larger than the other; but, from a distance, they look like any other horses. However, if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice that one horse is blind.

The owner of the horses must be a special person to make a good home for a blind horse. Most people would have put the horse to sleep.

Stand quietly near the fence and listen. Soon you will hear the sound of a bell. The bell is attached to the smaller horse and allows the blind horse to follow the smaller horse around.

Watch how the horse with the bell always checks on his buddy, the blind horse. In turn, the blind horse listens for the bell and then slowly walks toward the sound, trusting that he will not be led astray.

In the evening, when the horse with the bell returns to the barn, he stops occasionally and looks back, ensuring that his blind friend is following him back to shelter.

Like the owner of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems. He watches over us and brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by bell of those who God places in our path. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way.

Please listen for my bell and I will listen for yours . . .

Note :
I do not know who wrote this piece. It was sent to me by a friend. A bell was included.

This is a wonderful story, CyberCelt! What a great gift, too. It's a great reminder to be and to listen for bells of mindfulness.

Lovely photo, too.

It's a lovely sentiment... and something too many are not willing to consider in life as many people strive for "perfection" occasionally step on those who are not as blessed.

Interesting (see very) story. To be quite honest, I didn't know that horses would do that for one another.

Thanks for the posting.
